Federal Member for Mayo Rebekha Sharkie wants reform.
When asked if Parliament should be consulted before Australian troops are sent into armed conflict abroad Rebekha Sharkie told Michael West Media:
“Ultimately the Government of the day makes the decision about sending Australian troops into armed conflict abroad, and the Government has the numbers to make that decision. However, the Parliament should be able to debate this important national decision. I believe there is an expectation by the broader public that the whole of the Parliament should debate our troops going to a war. This does not happen at present. I understand that many military decisions are made urgently, however, the Parliament can be resumed on very short notice.”
