University Reform Analysis + Jason Clare MP | Insiders

by Michael West | Feb 25, 2024 | Scam of the Week

The Universities Accord report calls for a serious overhaul of the higher education sector. The main recommendation is for a new target – 80% of working age Australians having some form of tertiary education by 2050 – up from the current 60%.
It’s ambitious. Particularly given high school retention rates have been falling. The challenge for the government is to address problems in both the school system and higher education – to deliver the knowledge economy Australia needs. None of it will come cheap. David Speers interviews Education Minister Jason Clare about the slated reforms, and whether the government is up to delivering them. Raf Epstein, Katina Curtis and Sarah Ison on the couch discuss the leadup to the Dunkley by-election, supermarket price gouging, the Navy Surface Fleet review and Julian Assange. Mike Bowers talks the week in pictures with Dan Ilic.
