Michael West Media has just faced BHP in the Federal Court, where the Big Australian was pushing for a closed court and suppression orders. They won the latter … for now.
The first hearing meant that Michael West Media has to take down some of its own reporting before we go back to court next week, on June 4, for more punishment.
BHP got what they wanted but we do have a small win. BHP’s MinterEllison solicitor is off the case due to a conflict of interest and has withdrawn a key part of his affidavit on the grounds that it was, in legal language, sketchy.
Michael West established Michael West Media in 2016 to focus on journalism of high public interest, particularly the rising power of corporations over democracy. West was formerly a journalist and editor with Fairfax newspapers, a columnist for News Corp and even, once, a stockbroker.
