The Australian Human Rights Commission has accepted a series of complaints of discrimination and racial hatred against NewsCorp and many of its journalists.
The complaint covers a total of 81 publications and broadcasts by News Corp and its outlets Sky News, The Australian, Daily Telegraph and the Herald Sun. It also names 26 journalists and commentators, including Andrew Bolt, Caleb Bond, Chris Kenny, Erin Molan, Rita Panahi and Steve Price.
Birchgrove Legal, representing the 11 complainants, refers to propaganda stories without corroborating evidence (e.g. debunked claims of baby beheadings), the dehumanising of Palestinians, trivialising the atrocities of the IDF, and discrimination against Muslims of Arab background in Australia, “who have caused the multicultural experiment to fail.”
The complainants, seeking accountability for the harm caused, include University of NSW Associate Professor Peter Slezak, Australia Palestine Advocacy Network President Nasser Mashni and Actor/Producer Claudia Karvan.
Mashni said: “News Corp has relentlessly argued that Palestinians do not deserve protection from violence. They never apologised for spreading Israeli atrocity propaganda about beheaded babies, even after it was proven false.”
This goes far beyond poor journalism.
Slezak said, “Jewish people are facing a profound moral challenge as these actions are carried out in our name. Those of us who speak out against them were positioned as traitors and dangers to our own people.”
