Free Kick. AFL, Transurban boss does Israel gig, breaches human rights rules

by | Sep 10, 2026 | What's the scam?

“I’ll come back to you ASAP” they said. But chairman of toll road juggernaut and AFL commissioner Craig Drummond has not been forthcoming.

Transurban is committed to the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. Yet Chairman Craig Drummond has agreed to deliver a keynote address to the Australia-Israel Chamber of Commerce (AICC) business lunch on November 30.

Proceeds from the (estimated $2000 a table) business lunch go to support Israel, which is accused of plausible genocide in the International Court of Justice, and is also accused of genocide in Lebanon.

Does Drummond support this? The AICC does. This is one of Australia’s premier big business lobbies and its sponsors have included Israeli weapons manufacturers such as Elbit Systems whose weapons were involved in the assassination of Australian Zomi Frankcom and other aid workers. As well as the killings of at least 72,000 in Gaza, almost 9,000 in Lebanon and serial human rights abuses in the West Bank.

Transurban’s commitment UNGPs sits within the group’s Human Rights Policies and are part of its broader corporate governance framework. Is the Board of Transurban in breach of its own corporate governance commitments?
