US President Donald Trump has cast his ballot ahead of the November 3 mid-term elections, visiting a polling station in Florida with First Lady Melania Trump.

The president voted in person in West Palm Beach, near his Mar-a-Lago estate on Saturday, where he was spending the weekend. After casting his ballot, Trump wore an “I Voted” sticker on his lapel.

Critics have previously noted that Trump himself has voted by post despite his opposition to mail-in voting.

Trump has pushed for stricter rules on postal voting ahead of the mid-terms, arguing that the changes would help prevent electoral fraud.

Critics accuse him of trying to weaken support for the opposition Democrats, whose voters have traditionally made greater use of postal ballots.

The elections will determine control of Congress for the final two years of Trump’s presidency.

Trump’s Republicans hope to defend their narrow majorities in both chambers of Congress. Polls suggest Democrats have a strong chance of winning control of the House of Representatives.

The Senate is considered harder to flip, as only about one-third of its seats are up for election, but a change in control remains possible.
